Fizzi

February 20, 2012 Posted by Vaire

Fizzi is a shawl I finished some years ago. However, as it was blocking, Juku absolutely had to have a taste. He nibbled on three places, two at the edge and a third in the last dark stripe.

He suffered no consequences, while poor Fizzi was folded up and laid in a closet waiting for two years for me to fix her. This weekend I finally could face the undoing of my work.

I ripped the shawl down past the deepest hole, and crocheted the edging again. (The image below is from before ripping.) Fortunately, the hole was right above an end of a lace repeat, so I didn't lose much length.

I wore Fizzi to work today and she is perfect for this time of year.

There Has Been Some Knitting (and Crochet too)

February 15, 2012 Posted by Vaire

We had one sunny day this weekend, and I took a chance to snap a few photos of the things I've made lately. Or things I've made not so lately, but had not managed to photograph before.

Capucine

Capucine from very scratchy Lovikka. I bought the yarn to knit felted slippers, but used it in desperation for this pattern instead. I tried many yarns, but the pattern simply does not come out the size it's supposed to. This was the closest I could manage and it's too big and too small at the same time. I do like the form, so I may knit it for the fourth time if I ever find some suitable yarn.

One-Day Neckwarmer

One-Day Neckwarmer from Malabrigo Worsted. Oh so soft and slightly too big because it looked too small while I was knitting it, so I added some repeats. I may or may not rip it and reknit in smaller size.

Gaussian

Gaussian from the other half of the black blue dark green Malabrigo Worsted. The colour of this yarn looks black in some lights, and green in other. It looks green next to the true black of the Capucine, so green is the most likely colour.

Gaussian

The construction is very clever and results in a slightly Dutch looking cap when worn. right now it is so cold here that I am wearing it under the Capucine for maximum squishiness and warmth.

Dice pouch

Dice pouch from self-striping sock yarn (Regia Mini Ringel). I crocheted a rectangle where the long side was the length of the blue colour. Some colour lengths were longer than was needed, and some slightly shorter, but the effect is what I aimed for — one row per colour. I had exactly enough leftovers to make this pouch, even though I have slightly too many dice for it.

A New Shiny

February 13, 2012 Posted by Vaire

When I was waiting for my iMac to be repaired, I went shopping in the PUB. The yarn store I went there for, had moved, so I looked around and found these candle holders made from coconut shells.

Candle patterns

There were different patterns cut into the shells and I could not resist the one with holes drilled into it.

Candle patterns

It looks pretty during the day, but with a lit candle, it is gorgeous.

Mõmmi

February 03, 2012 Posted by Vaire

During my visit, my sister in law asked me to knit an old-fashioned teddy bear for my nephew. As it happened, I already had noticed a Swedish knitting magazine at the airport with a pattern for 'gammaldags nallar' (old-fashioned teddy bears). Naturally, I bought it on my way back.

Mõmmi

This was my first attempt at knitting in Swedish and the pattern was not making any sense. The numbers simply didn’t add up. Once I figured out that the reason why the pattern didn’t make any sense was that there were surplus seams involved, it was smooth sailing.

Mõmmi

The result is absolutely worth it! Mõmmi is adorable and oh so soft. I used the same sheeps wool to stuff him as for jänku, and alpaca yarn to knit him.
