First Frost

First Frost

First frost of the year. The air is crispy in the mornings, the leaves are turning, the ground gets harder. Winter is coming...

Playing

March 27, 2015 Posted by Vaire , ,

Today I read about an app that can turn photos into water colour paintings. Out of curiosity I tried it and I must say, I'm impressed. It does one thing, and one thing only, but it does it superbly.

Waterlogue

It has a very simple interface, is very easy to use and if you feed it right kinds of photos, the results are stunning.

Remember the fog photo? No? No worries, here's the original.

And here is what Waterlogue made of it. Better than the original, isn't it?

Sunsets

Sunset

This is the time of the year when the days are warmer, clearer and longer, and the sunsets are happening around the time I'm coming home from work. As soon as the summer time hits, all those beautiful evenings happen an hour later, so I'm trying to make most of them while I can.

Magic Mornings

November 03, 2014 Posted by Vaire ,

Such mornings make me feel as if I lived in a magic forest. The mist was so thick that the opposite shore was completely obscured and all there was were trees and mist that glowed.

Sunrise

If one doesn't look at the parking lot, or the neighbour's satellite dish. But if I take a couple steps back from the windows, the mist and the trees is all I see.

Magic.

Of Walks and Bridges

September 19, 2014 Posted by Vaire ,

In an effort to improve my stamina, I devised a plan this spring to start walking home from work. Taking it at stages first, and then, walk all the way home at least once in September. I can report that I've met the "at least once" goal — I walked the whole way home this week. It had been a long day, but I felt up to the task, and I went on an amazing walk home at dusk and sunset.

Water

There is a bay that the first 2 kilometres circle and there was this gorgeous light, so I snapped quite a few photos on the way. (About a 100, I got carried away a little.) The hill that is at the end of those 2 kilometres had been kicking my ass so far, but I conquered it.

Bridge

Sometimes it feels that Stockholm is built of bridges, tunnels, hills, and more bridges over bridges (or under). This particular bridge is a train bridge and there happened to be a train passing as I crossed the water on yet another bridge. It may sound like I'm complaining, but actually I'm not. Coming from a relatively 2D city, the 3D nature of Stockholm threw me a bit when I first arrived. Now I find it one more thing that makes this place so unique.

Misty Mornings

Misty Morning

About now is when the weather becomes more interesting. How lovely is to wake up to cosy weather like this? (Very, I can say.)

Sky

September 01, 2014 Posted by Vaire ,

After living all my life in the city with buildings opposite my windows, I never realised what I'd been missing.

Sky.

Even after two years in the new flat, I'm still not tired of views like this.

Summer Storm

August 18, 2014 Posted by Vaire ,

The weather is still warm, but finally the rains are here and it's a lot more tolerable. It rains about once a day, if not more and when it rains at night, it makes my little flat so cosy. Light a couple candles, and listen to the rain... So nice!

Summer Storm

When it rains, it doesn't necessarily mean that the whole sky is covered with clouds. It can just be a passing storm cloud with thunder, lightning, hail, and sunshine. The little ice flakes glittered in the setting sun and made this storm exceptionally pretty. This iPhone photo only gives an inkling of what it looked like, but I couldn't find my camera fast enough and the hail was passing already. It was the most beautiful hail storm I've ever seen.

First Snow

December 06, 2013 Posted by Vaire ,

Thanks to the storm Sven passing through, it's snowing here today.

First Snow

It was a bit windy here, but nothing major. There have been damages and a loss of life in UK. That dampens the joy of the first snow this year considerably.

Weather Musings

September 11, 2013 Posted by Vaire ,

The nights may be colder, but the days are just as sunny as they were in July and the temperatures are in their twenties. This is unusually warm for this time of year, but for once I'm not complaining about the heat. I quite enjoy when the temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius.

The Spring was late, the Summer was late, now the Autumn is late, and if the trend continues, the Winter will be late too. It's been an odd year, but I've enjoyed seeing the seasons change. It's unusual, but not unheard of, just fun to compare to a more "normal" weather.

Fog

This thick fog has greeted me outside my windows every morning this week. On Monday I thought that, surely, this means Autumn has begun now.

Clear sky with airplane trails

I was wrong, this is what the sky looked like around noon on Monday — blue sky with aeroplane trails. People walking around without coats, soaking up the last warm days of Summer. Really lovely weather, but more and more clouds every day. Maybe it's time for Autumn after all?

Collage Tiles

March 27, 2013 Posted by Vaire

I am continuing to play with the collage app. Practising composition and putting together themes.

Tiled Photo

I am improving, I think, but still I have ways to go.

Spring!

March 20, 2013 Posted by Vaire ,

Not.

According to the calendar, today is the Spring equinox. According to the weather, not so much.

Spring sunset with snow

I't been snowing for a couple of days now, and the temperatures have been consistently below zero for weeks. I'm not complaining, weather like this is not really unusual for this time of year, and snow is always fun. It is rare to get snowfall and sunshine at the same time, I'm enjoying every moment of this while it still lasts. The Spring will be here soon enough.

I still am totally enamoured in what I see when I look out my windows. It still is awesome to me to actually see the weather and the seasons change.

New Toys

March 06, 2013 Posted by Vaire

So I went ahead and invested a whopping 7 krona in a collage app. I've wanted to play with photo collages for a while, they are so handy to show several aspects of something at once. Or show all the stages of one project in one image.

Playing with tiles

This is the first experiment. Not too bad, but there is room for improvement. The next time I'll make the frames white to begin with, and try to choose an image where Sona's butt is not prominent while the rest of him is cut off. I see many happy hours of experimentation ahead of me.

Sorta Spring

March 04, 2013 Posted by Vaire , , ,

This is such a typical weather for this time of year in this part of the world — snowing one day and full sunshine the next. It snowed on Saturday, but as much as I love snow and Winter, I rejoiced in the sun spots on the floor yesterday. Five years in a flat with north facing windows can change a person, apparently. It's too early to say that the Spring is in the air, but it is definitely close.

Sun spots

I was having some fun with my birthday present (iPad Mini) and with the new Flickr app's filters. I'd like to find a good photo editing app and some fun games for it. Maybe a stylus and a sketching app as well, but that's for the future. I'm not done discovering what it can do with what I already have.

The Sun

March 01, 2013 Posted by Vaire , , ,

It is getting so much lighter now. I get to go to work after the sun is up and get home before it sets. I also get to enjoy the patterns the sun makes on the walls.

Sun

Nice. Apart from the streets being dangerously slippery, I really enjoy living in this part of town at this time of year.
