I hate Daylight Savings Time. That is all I can say today.

I'll be back when the fog clears.

On Weightloss and Progress (or Lack Thereof)

March 26, 2008 Posted by Vaire

I've put some stats on my sidebar to remind me where I was and where I am going. There have been no updates for the past two months because there has been no change. No change! Woo! It has not changed one bit! My March average is actually lower than my February average and I haven't even worked at losing weight. Yippee!

So why am I so inordinately proud of not losing any weight when I've been so gung-ho in the past? One of the reasons is that I was losing weight too fast, my skin couldn't keep up with it. I decided to give it a break and stop actively watching what I ate. Also to see was I still over-eating and would I begin gaining weight again? No and no.

That's why I'm so happy to say that I haven't lost any weight. Ha! Take that, obesity, over-eating and comfort-eating! I do not need your crutches any more. I can maintain my weight simply by eating what I like and my skin has caught up with the weightloss. Woo! Those that know me, know that beating the over-eating is one of the major victories in my life. I've beaten the cravings! Woo!

I'm ready to start losing weight again and I expect to reach my goal this autumn. I probably won't be progressing as fast as I was last year, but then again, I know I can do it and I'm not obese anymore. Nor am I at risk of scary health complications that may bring, so I'll take it easy this time.

I've put a goal number on the sidebar, but really anything between 60 and 69 kilos is a healthy weight for me and it doesn't really matter if I end up at 66 or 63 kilos. I may end up at both anyway since weight fluctuates naturally.

I'm so happy I feel skipping like a little girl.

When Will I Ever Learn?

March 21, 2008 Posted by Vaire

I have a cat that eats cables, cords and chews on the shower hose. Mao also eats plastic with glee. I can't for the life of me understand how he could find plastic tasty, but he does, so I have to hide everything and hope that he doesn't eat any more power cords or computer cables.

So why, oh why, do I leave out two pairs of headphones in one month? Yeah, I know — I forgot to put them away. This forgetfulness is getting expensive; I had to buy a second set of earbuds on Wednesday. I hope that this expensive lesson makes my memory sharper.

Anyway, this latest set is cheaper and better quality that the two previous ones. I'm happily listening to Rammstein and Nightwish during my commute again. I like taking the public transport, but I don't like hearing someones dinner plans or that they hate their boss or that a certain boy is cute. I'd rather listen to good music instead.

March 17, 2008 Posted by Vaire

You know, weekends are way too short, two days just isn't enough to recuperate and do things that I want to do. My ideal week would be four days at work, three days off. Unfortunately that just wouldn't fly with a corporate employer and I am not good enough at sales to be self-employed.

Yea, I didn't accomplish a thing last weekend, because I just wanted to rest. It didn't help that I got three new books from Handelsgillet and spent some serious time with them. Got loads of ideas for new SCA projects, which I'm doing my best to ignore, because I still haven't begun to sew. So now I've got 5.5 weeks left, I know, stupid me.

I went to see Jumper with a friend last week. It was a fun little movie, nothing extraordinary, good mindless entertainment, nice special effects. Recommended to take time off from real life and if you like Sci-Fi mindless eye candy entertainment.

Before the movie we stopped by Lush and I got a few things from them. I wanted to have solid shampoo, lotion and soap in boxes for travel. I must say that I am disappointed and won't be buying anything but their soaps in the future. I thought that their distinctive strong smell in the store came from bath bombs, but found out that whatever it is, they put it in their shampoo bars and massage bars too. Yuck!

I'm extra disappointed with the shampoo bar because it's eco-friendly and cleans really well, but it smells nasty. I left it out after the shower to dry before putting into the box and it stank up the whole bathroom. The massage bar is not as bad, but it leaves behind this distinctive chemical smell instead of the citrus fragrance I was after. A real bummer, that.

Now the soap, it is a beaut. Smells good, cleans well and leaves my skin feeling nice too. I've tried a few other soaps from them and I've liked them too. I wish they'd omit the stinky stuff from their other products. As it is now, I must learn how to make my own solid shampoo and lotion if I want less hassle in travelling and have the fragrances I like. More projects on my long list and very little time to do them in...

More Cat Fun on YouTube

March 12, 2008 Posted by Vaire

Remember this clip? I've found out that the author is Simon Tofield and the first clip is called 'Cat Man Do'. Here is another of his brilliant animations, via Will Pillage for Yarn:

I could name a few cats just like this one...

C it is

March 10, 2008 Posted by Vaire

Thank you all who gave me feedback! Your comments are deeply appreciated. The majority (3/4 of you) said C and C it will be.

Since Double Wars is a week-long event I need to make quite a few things, but fortunately not everything. I'm thinking of modifying the 13th Century outfit (the blue one in the previous post under B) to be appropriate for 15th Century and I can use one of the 16th Century shirts in a pinch. I have 7 weeks until the event, so I should be able to take it slowly and not crash and burn like at the 12th Night in 2007.

These are the things I must make:

  • 1 new shirt and modify the 13th century one, if possible. Makes total of 3-4 usable ones.
  • 2 new short-sleeved kirtles, maybe I'll fit in one old one (As if! But I'll try anyway). Makes total 2-3 kirtles.
  • 1 overdress, remade from the blue 13th Century dress.

Estimated time – 3-4 weeks if I don't run into fitting problems with the kirtles.

These are nice to have, if there is time before Double Wars:

  • 1 underskirt.
  • 1 apron.
  • 1 veil.
  • 1 pair of hose.
  • 1 pair of sleeves.

Estimated time – 2-3 weeks.

I'll begin with a kirtle because I already have shirts and I can't modify the overdress before I have a kirtle to go under it.

A, B or C?

March 07, 2008 Posted by Vaire

Allright. Here are some pictures.

A and C (sort of)

Spring Crown Tourney 2004

This is how I want to look again. Photos clockwise from left — spring 2004, fall 2001 and spring 2002.

B

Champions of Love 2006

This is not the peasant look, but the 13th century tunic I mentioned. The peasant clothes are even baggier. Ugh! Photo from February 2006.

None

Spring Crown Tourney 2007

This is the Landsknecht outfit, photo from April 2007.

I worked on this outfit for a year, but there are too many negative emotions attached to it now for me to be comfortable in it. I'd sell it in a blink of an eye if anyone was interested. This is the second version, you can see the first incarnation here. I'd much rather make three new dresses, than a new bodice for this one.

A, B, C or none? Please tell me which option suits me best. I can't see myself clearly.

Um. That didn't come out right. The thing is that the image I see in the mirror and the image I see in my head don't match. I thought I was grossly overweight in 2002 at 60kg and it went downhill from there (86kg in 2007). Now, at 74kg, nfavm says I'm damn gorgeous (blush) and all I see is the fat rolls. So clearly, I am not qualified to judge my own body here.

A Dilemma

March 05, 2008 Posted by Vaire

I can't make up my mind and I need your advice. Should I make new clothes for Double Wars or not?

I've lost quite a bit of weight, so my newest SCA clothes (Landsknecht) don't fit me like they should. The 13th century tunic and Estonian peasant clothes probably will, but they are so baggy. I've come to realization that I like figure-hugging styles, not the baggy tunic styles.

The problem is that I'm still loosing weight and if I make something that fits me now, it'll be too big in two months. Probably. Maybe. I definitely won't fit in my tight 15th century kirtles by Double Wars (I don't know if I ever will again, I was 60 kg then).

I only hand sew, so it takes a fair bit of commitment and time to finish a dress, I'm loath to spend so much time and effort on something I'll only wear once. If I want to have something new for Double Wars I must begin now to get everything done in time.

So:

  1. do I stop loosing weight and make a new 15th century wardrobe?
  2. do I continue loosing weight and look frumpy in the baggy peasant clothes?
  3. do I continue loosing weight and make a new wardrobe anyway?

A, b or c? Please help me decide!

The Stash

March 03, 2008 Posted by Vaire

Ask, and ye shall receive.

Tina said: "Wow, can't wait to see a picture of all your stash!" The trouble is that it didn't all fit into one picture, so I took a few. Instead making a usual photo album on my sidebar, I decided to go with Flickr because I could add notes to the photos. Go, take a look and tell me what you think of the size.
