As happy as I was with my iMac, I am now disappointed in Apple. My iMac crashed and bit the dust on Saturday. It was only two years old and I expected to get at least 4-5 years of use out of it. My guess is that the graphics card is the culprit, but since it's an iMac, I can't open the case and stick a new one in.
I took it to the retailer (who also does repairs) on Sunday and the estimated time for them to figure out what broke and maybe fix it is two weeks. Two weeks! My whole life is on that thing and now I can't do anything but wait for the shop to repair it and pray that my data will still be there when I get it back. I always meant to start back-ups, but never got to it, and now it is too late.
There is also a chance that I'd have to buy a new computer if the old one can not be fixed. Then I have to make the choice between Windows and Mac again. The thing is I like OS X, I like Macs, and I was happy with my iMac until now. I don't want to buy a Windows machine! But I don't know if I dare buy another iMac either, their lifespan doesn't seem to be that great at the moment.
*sigh* Crappity crap crap.
