As I was sewing the gift wraps for gifts last year, it became very obvious that I was missing something to put the pins I'd just pulled from the seam into. I hung a small scrap of cloth from the sewing machine to be close at hand then, but that solution was unsatisfactory.
Now that I want to get into machine sewing more seriously, I made myself a pin cushion that is small enough not to get in the way, but also has enough surface to poke to be useful. My normal hand sewing pin cushions are both too big to use with a machine, and one doesn't have a loop for hanging either.
Hence this wee thing. It is sewn from a piece of quilting cotton entirely by hand and stuffed with wool. The thimble was a lot more comfortable this time and the stitches much more even. The side is only 6 cm long, but it has enough surface in the three sides to comfortably fit quite a few pins.
In another news, I have found a new job! It's back to databases and SQL, and I am so very happy to be a developer again. This thing, where one configures stuff and not writes a single line of code, simply was not for me. But thanks to that position, I have so much more clarity about who I am and what I want to work with. I am so exited about this new job! Whee! Databases! So happy.
