My fourth and last Nordic Secret Friend package has arrived!

Fourth Nordic Secret Friend package

Anita sent me some yummy mohair and ragg sockyarn made in Norway. Thank you, Anita!

Package contents with Ursus

Ursus had to check everything, of course.

While it has been fun to participate in this exchange, I will not take part of Nordic Secret Friend v.2. I don't think I'll have time to do the exchange justice. On the other hand, I might change my mind by December 31st.

Ursus chronicles.

This can't be comfy!

I can't believe this is comfortable!

Nor this.

Or this.

Purr-able.

This, on the other hand is not only comfortable, but also purr-able.

The Fluted Banisters are done! Just in time to begin the next Six Sox Knitalong pair on December 1.

A pair of Fluted Banisters

Now I need to decide whether knit a hat or a pair of gloves first. It depends on which extremity freezes the most, I suppose. Decisions, decisions...

Ursus continues to entertain us. This morning he decided he was bored and we needed to get up. So he climbed up into the bed and started to bounce all over us. You can't really ignore a hyperactive kitten jumping up and down on you, so we got up. What a merry way to begin one's day.

Today was such a beautiful winter day, we took a walk.

We walked down to the water and then towards Liljeholmen bridge.

Snow on branches

Usually the first snow goes away quickly, but this stayed overnight.

Snow on tree trunc

Then we came up on a tree that hadn't dropped its leaves. It's unusual for me. The evergreens keep their needles, but leaves are supposed to go before the snow comes.

This is what I woke up to this morning. Snow, lots of snow. I love snow and I love winter, this view made me very happy.

Snowing outside my window

Other than that, there are no news. I'm still trying to catch up on my e-mails, blogs, job search and knitting.

The winter has arrived and we need winter gear. The following is a list of what I want to make.

  1. A pair of gloves for R,
  2. a pair of gloves for me,
  3. a cap for me,
  4. and a warm indoor slipper socks for him.

I also want to finish the Fluted Banisters, cast on for the second Alhambra sock and continue developing the Lansdknecht stockings.

Ursus playing with Eeyore

With a kitten as cute as this it's difficult to concentrate on anything else but him. I'm slowly introducing knitting to him, but he's a little scared of the needles and I can't work on anything for long. It'll take a little while until I can knit and act as a kitten pillow at the same time.

We're back and I've got a kitten. Whee!

On Sunday when we had landed R's mom called and said: "I've a little surprise for you. My birthday gift for you is a kitten, when can you come to pick it up?" There was no question about it, we went to Norrtälje immediately. Fortunately we had sent all our luggage home with friends who had come to the event with a van. So all we had to carry around was the kitten and his litterbox. Perfect!

Ursus

The kitten is a tiny little fluffball and an ideal lap cat. He has three modes: attack, eat and sleep. In attack mode he attacks and kills everything from his toys to table legs and carpets, in eat mode he attacks the food and in sleep mode he is the sweetest little thing.

He doesn't really have a name yet. He looks like a little bear cub so we're thinking of calling him Ursus. Our friend came up with that name when she was told that he is our little attack bear. We didn't want to name him in Estonian (Karu), English (Bear) or Swedish (Björn), but Ursus is an excellent choice. We'll see, if he accepts the name or not.

Oh, the event was fun too. Unfortunately I forgot to have any pictures taken.

We're off to the plane and to the event Feast of Saint Homobonus. The dress is finished. Because the dress has extremely low neckline I have decided to bring my 15th century silk partlet. It does not have the correct shape, but I don't have time or materials to make a Venetian one. I'd rather have it in case it's cold, than freeze.

Hopefully there will be a chance to have good pictures taken of the outfit.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi there! This is the secretive R sneak-writing on Vaire's blog. I don't have much time since she can come back any moment. If I'm not totally out of the loop, today is her birthday. As a boyfrind I hope I'm not wrong, otherwise this is gonna be painful.

Congratz! Vivant! Happy birthday! Love you älskling.

This morning I decided it was time to take out my braids. 9 hours later I feel a little bald. The hair is so thin! And short. I'll get used to it in a couple of days.

It's been quiet here 'cause there's lots going on over there. As of today I have finished the camicia, shoes and a necklace; cut out the dress and am trying to solve a bodice stiffening problem. I need to figure out what to do with my hair and will I make a partlet or not?

7 days until the event.

This weekend was spent on preparing for or attending R's cousins 40th birthday party. The party had an 80's theme and the guests were asked to dress accordingly.

On Friday we went shopping for the party with my sil. We found a turquoise knit dress with a hip sash and shoulder pads in a second-hand store. Then another friend joined us and we went on to buy pink pantyhose with white butterflies, atomic green leg warmers, white terry wrist band and big white plastic earrings. I haven't had so much fun for a long time. Especially because my sil was horrified by each of our choises. She took our advice in the end, we were teenagers in the 80's and she was a small child then, we had the experience and memories. I totally agree with her, though — the costume was blinding. To complete the costume she wore white shoes, a headband with pink bow and had her hair done in 80's style.

80's style

Doesn't she look smashing?

The preparations continued on Saturday and the party itself lasted well into Sunday. The rest of the Sunday was spent recuperating from the festivities.

I have knit a little meanwhile, but I'm mostly concentrating on sewing my Venetian outfit. 11 days to the event and I haven't even cut out my dress. Yikes!
